Overview of the Research

This research project titled “Surveys of social enterprise activity in Bangladesh, Ghana, India and Pakistan” seeks to gain an understanding of existing social enterprises exist and their roles and achievements in the four countries-Bangladesh, Ghana, India and Pakistan and aims to compile a specific set of quantitative information on social enterprise activity in these four countries.

Although Social enterprises address social and environmental problems through innovative solutions, there is little data about their activity in most countries.  It is an exciting project, as there is currently a data gap on social enterprise activities in these countries and an established demand for this information

The project is led by Overseas Development Institute (ODI) who are providing oversight, with support from Social Enterprise UK (SEUK). The project is commissioned by British Council and BetterStories Limited is leading the research/project in Bangladesh. There are two main components to the work:

Brief Research Methodology
There are three major steps to this research: Creation of Database; Survey of Social Enterprises and Reporting.
The first two steps are crucial to this project and will be carried out in a robust manner. The database will include an extensive list of social enterprises that are currently working in Bangladesh. The survey process will filter out the entities that are truly eligible to be called a Social Enterprise.

Social Enterprise Survey: What’s in it for YOU?

DATA = POWER

Numbers can show the economic contribution, job creation and social impact of social enterprises. This can help mobilise government and donor support, increase appropriate forms of finance and investment, and encourage more non-financial support to help enterprises to grow

My Organisation isn’t a Social Enterprise

That’s OK– the survey looks at impact, job creation and economic contribution of all respondents and does not assume that social enterprises are necessarily the most impact full business model. We want to find out!

Raising Your Organisation’s Profile

You’ll have the opportunity to share details of your organisation which will be published as part of a database of social enterprises – raising your profile for clients, investors and other potential supporters

Linking in to British Council Social Enterprise Work

The British Council is running an extensive programme raising the profile of social enterprise in Bangladesh, Ghana, India and Pakistan – by being part of the survey, your organisation will be on their radar for future events and activities
